• Mississauga Tree By-law 0021-2022 currently protects private trees down to 15 cm DBH — one of the tightest thresholds in the GTA, tied with Oakville. If your driveway base excavation crosses a tree protection zone, we plan it out before we cut. Removal permits run roughly $343.52 base + $124.14 per additional tree, plus an ISA arborist report. Confirm current fees with the City.
• Lorne Park and Mineola estate driveways often hit 2,500 to 5,000 sq ft. At that size the base, edge restraint and joint detail matter more than the paver pattern — that is where cheap installs fail in two winters.
• Port Credit waterfront properties near Lake Ontario need real drainage planning. Flat lots, high water table, and salt-laden runoff all eat into a poorly built base.
• Streetsville’s heritage character tends to favour natural stone or muted concrete pavers over modern oversized slabs. We match the street, not a showroom.
• Credit Valley Conservation regulates most of the Credit River corridor under Ontario Regulation 41/24. If your lot touches the river, a tributary or top-of-bank, a CVC permit may be required before we cut grade. East Mississauga near Etobicoke Creek falls under TRCA instead.
• Ontario Building Code frost depth is 1.2 m. For driveways carrying vehicle loads, we build the base accordingly — not the 6-inch base that landscapers quote.

Types of pavers we install in Mississauga

• Concrete interlocking pavers — Techo-Bloc, Unilock, Permacon. Workhorse of Mississauga driveways. Wide colour and texture range, predictable cost.
• Natural stone — flagstone, granite, limestone. The default for Lorne Park and Mineola estate aesthetics. Higher material cost, longer install, but no other product looks like it after twenty years.
• Permeable pavers — useful on Port Credit and other flat-grade lots where stormwater management is a problem. Lets rain pass through the joints into a clean stone reservoir below.
• Porcelain pavers — modern slab look for pool decks and contemporary patios in Erin Mills and Churchill Meadows. Stain-resistant, dimensionally accurate, but unforgiving on the base.

Our paver installation process

1. Site walk and grade check — we measure, look at how water moves, mark utilities and flag any protected trees before we quote.
2. Excavation — for driveways we typically remove 250-350 mm of material; for patios 200-250 mm. Subgrade is checked and recompacted.
3. Base — 19 mm crushed stone in lifts, compacted to spec. This is where the job lives or dies.
4. Bedding and laying — high-performance bedding sand or chip, screeded flat, pavers laid to pattern with consistent joints.
5. Edge restraint and polymeric sand — concrete or rigid edge, then polymeric jointing sand, activated and cured.
6. Cleanup and walkthrough — site is broom-clean and you sign off before we leave.

What affects paver cost in Mississauga

• Square footage — a 400 sq ft patio and a 4,000 sq ft Mineola driveway are different conversations. Per-sq-ft cost drops as size grows.
• Paver type — concrete is the floor, natural stone and porcelain are the ceiling. Permeable sits in the middle plus extra base depth.
• Base depth — driveways carry vehicles and need deeper base than patios. We do not shortcut this.
• Tree by-law impact — if your driveway expansion crosses a 15 cm DBH protected tree, expect arborist fees, permit fees in the $343.52 + $124.14 per tree range, and replanting requirements.
• Drainage — catch basins, French drains, regrading and re-tying downspouts add to the scope. On flat Port Credit lots, this is rarely optional.
• Conservation approvals — CVC or TRCA permits add weeks and cost if your work falls in a regulated area.
• Demolition — removing old asphalt or concrete is its own line item; haul-away tonnage is part of every Mississauga driveway rebuild we quote.

FAQ — Interlocking paver in Mississauga

Do I need a permit to replace my driveway with pavers in Mississauga?

A like-for-like paver driveway replacement on the same footprint usually does not need a building permit, but the City has rules on hard-surface coverage, curb cuts and driveway widening. If you are removing or impacting a tree over 15 cm DBH, that triggers the Private Tree Protection By-law 0021-2022. We confirm what applies before we cut.

How deep do you excavate for a paver driveway in Mississauga?

For a residential driveway we typically excavate 250-350 mm below finished grade, then build the base back in compacted lifts of 19 mm crushed stone. Patios are shallower at roughly 200-250 mm. Final depth depends on subgrade — clay-heavy lots in Cooksville or older Mineola get more base than well-drained sandy soil.

How long does a paver job take in Mississauga?

A standard 400-600 sq ft patio usually runs 3-5 working days once we are on site. A 2,500-5,000 sq ft Lorne Park or Mineola estate driveway is more typically 10-15 working days including demolition, base, install and polymeric sand. Weather, tree work and conservation reviews can extend that.

Are pavers a good fit for Port Credit’s wet, flat lots?

Yes, but only when drainage is designed in. On flat Port Credit lots near the lake, we frequently use permeable pavers or build positive slope into the patio so water leaves the surface fast. We tie downspouts and any catch basins into the plan so the base does not sit saturated through freeze-thaw.
