Mini Excavator Services in Mississauga — Operator + Machine, Day Rate
We bring a mini excavator and a licensed operator to Mississauga job sites at a flat day rate of $1,200, mobilization included. Whether you’re prepping a pool in Erin Mills, cutting a basement walk-out in Clarkson, or fixing drainage on a 1970s lot in Cooksville, the compact machine fits through a 36-inch gate and gets the dig done in a day. What we use the mini excavator for in Mississauga
Mississauga lots are a mix: 1970s bungalows with mature trees, 90s backsplits, and the 2000s-onward stock across Mavis-Britannia and Meadowvale. The mini excavator (a 1.7 to 3.5-tonne machine) is the right tool when you need real digging power but don’t want a full-size machine tearing up your interlock or lawn. Common Mississauga uses we run every week:
- Pool excavation prep and basement walk-out cuts. Port Credit and Lorne Park backyards where access is tight and the dig is 5-7 feet deep, plus Clarkson and Sheridan ravine lots where we trench down to the footing and haul the spoil out.
- Drainage corrections. Mississauga’s clay-heavy soil holds water. We trench for weeping tile, French drains, and downspout extensions in Cooksville and Mineola.
- Driveway and walkway base prep. Strip topsoil, dig to grade, and load out for a clean granular base in Streetsville and Erin Mills.
- Stump extraction and footings. Pulling stumps when a tree comes down (subject to the tree-removal permit rules below), plus 4×4 sonotube holes and full strip footings for sheds, decks, and additions.
Day rate, what’s included, and how we quote
Our published Mississauga rate is $1,200 per day for the mini excavator with operator. That covers an 8-hour day on site, mobilization to and from Mississauga, fuel, and standard buckets (12-inch trench, 24-inch grading, and a thumb attachment for stump and rock work). Half-day work is $750 when the schedule allows it.
What’s not in the day rate: disposal of excavated soil (priced per ton or per bin), imported gravel or sand, locates if the site doesn’t already have an active Ontario One Call ticket, and any permit fees. We quote those line-by-line so you see the real number, not a teaser rate.
Mississauga permits and what to flag before we dig
Two Mississauga rules come up on almost every dig and they’re worth knowing before you book the machine:
Lot grading. Mississauga requires lot grading to be maintained when you dig and backfill. If you’re cutting a walk-out, changing a driveway grade, or building up the rear yard for a pool deck, the City may want a grading plan stamped before sign-off. We work to the original grade certificate when one exists.
Tree removal. Mississauga’s Private Tree Protection By-law triggers a permit for trees 15 cm DBH or larger on private land, a much lower threshold than Toronto. Cutting roots inside a tree’s drip line counts as injury under the by-law.
South and west ends: if your Mississauga property backs onto the Credit River, Sixteen Mile Creek, or a ravine corridor, Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) regulates the buffer and you may need a Section 28 permit. East-side properties near Etobicoke Creek fall under TRCA instead.
Why Mississauga homeowners and contractors call OCM
We’re an excavation and construction outfit, not a rental yard. When you book a compact excavator with OCM in Mississauga, you get a licensed operator who knows where the gas line usually runs and won’t put a tooth through your weeping tile. We carry commercial general liability and active coverage on every operator, we call locates ourselves, and we clean up before we leave.
If your scope is bigger than a one-day booking (full pool dig, basement lowering, foundation underpinning) see our Mississauga excavation contractor page. Full GTA map at our service areas.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can your mini excavator fit through a standard Mississauga backyard gate?
Yes. Our smallest machine is 36 inches wide at the tracks, so it clears a standard 1.2-metre gate with the rubber tracks retracted. For tighter Port Credit and Mineola lots with stone walkways or narrow side yards, we’ll measure on the site visit. If access is under 36 inches we’ll tell you up front and quote a hand-dig assist instead.
What does the $1,200 day rate actually cover?
The day rate covers an 8-hour shift, the mini excavator with operator, mobilization, fuel, and the standard buckets and thumb. Soil disposal, imported gravel, permits, surveyor fees, and locates outside the standard window are billed separately and itemized on your quote.
Do I need a permit to dig in my Mississauga backyard?
It depends on the work. A simple drainage trench or shed footing usually doesn’t need one. A pool, addition, or anything that changes lot grading typically does. Trees 15 cm DBH or larger trigger the Private Tree By-law. We flag likely permits on the quote.
Can you haul away the soil too?
Yes. We can bring a dump trailer or order a bin to site. Clean fill goes to a licensed receiving site; contaminated or mixed material costs more because of tipping fees. We price disposal by ton or by bin, whichever is cheaper.
How fast can you get to a Mississauga site?
For most Mississauga neighbourhoods we can be on site within 3-7 business days of booking, depending on the season. Spring and fall are our busiest stretches. Emergency calls (water main, flooded basement) we try to get to inside 24-48 hours.
Do you carry insurance and call locates?
Yes. We carry commercial general liability and active coverage on every operator, and we file the Ontario One Call locate request ourselves. Locates take roughly 5 business days.
